The Witcher star Henry Cavill thinks that the Warhammer universe has a lot of content to pull from and is hoping that one day there will be a live-action adaptation. If there ever is a Warhammer movie or television show, the actor would like to be a part of whatever comes.
While there are times when an actor might join a project that’s centered around a game or movie without having played or watched it, that’s apparently not the case with Cavill. While Keanu Reeves hasn’t played Cyberpunk 2077, despite appearing in it, Cavill understands The Witcher series because he’s an actual fan of the books and the game. Coincidentally, when the actor talked about wanting to take part in a Warhammer movie or television show, he wasn’t just naming a random franchise. The Superman actor is a fan of that universe.
Speaking to IGN during a recent promotional stop for Netflix’s The Witcher Season 2, Cavill said that there are actually quite a few different characters from the Warhammer universe he’d like to portray. However, he added that if he were to play a character from that franchise, he’d only be able to be one of them. He explained that once he takes on that kind of role, he can’t take on another one in the same universe.
It appears the implication here is that while Cavill is very eager to take on a role, whether its Warhammer 40K or one of the fantasy titles, he wants to choose carefully. He did add that he thinks there might be a way for him to play a Warhammer 40K character and a person from the fantasy world, but he’d have to talk to the people behind the franchise because there isn’t even anything in the works at the moment.
If there was any lingering doubt that Cavill is actually a fan of Warhammer, his response to one suggestion as to who he should play likely dispelled that. The interviewer commented that he might make a good Gregor Eisenhorn and he responded, “that would be exciting, yes, but then I burn Primarchs, and the Captain-Generals, so I don’t really know.” For those not aware, Captain Generals are the highest rank attainable in Adeptus Custodes, the elite bodyguards of the Emperor of Mankind in Warhammer 40K.
While there aren’t any announced plans for a television show or movie based on the Warhammer universe, Cavill’s already had at least one tie into that franchise. He was an Easter Egg in Total War: Warhammer 2.
