Motorcycles and ATVs have a certain lasting appeal to them, though there have been surprisingly few games that use them to their full potential in the last few years, at least in the context of Motocross tournaments. However, the MX vs ATV franchise, which has been the defining Motorcross game series for years now, has a new game officially entering the fray.

THQ Nordic today announced MX vs ATV Legends, a new game in the series that’s headed to the PS5 and Xbox Series X. While there wasn’t any gameplay included alongside the announcement, THQ Nordic did share a few gameplay details about the upcoming title, along with a few screenshots to give a better idea of where the game is headed.

The biggest reveal is that MX vs. ATV Legends will feature the deepest career mode that the series has seen to date. Players will have control over things like their sponsorship options and special invitational events, and there will likely be other surprises waiting for them when the game launches. There’s also going to be a Trial Mode that will pit players against nature.

This will mark the first new entry in the MX vs. ATV series since 2018’s MX vs ATV All Out, which was released to middling reviews. While the game has garnered a “mostly positive” rating on Steam, the critical response largely cited technical issues and lackluster gameplay as holding it back. As with all games, though, it’s impossible to tell how MX vs ATV Legends will fair until it’s available to play.

However, it’s not quite clear when MX vs ATV Legends will launch, at least not yet. The came was only given an ambiguous “coming soon,” so it might be a while yet. However, that does mean that fans should get a look at gameplay before the game launches, which is a net positive. After all, there will likely be some apprehensive fans following the last entry in the franchise.

Luckily, though, the games industry isn’t lacking triple-a racing games on new hardware. Forza Horizon 5 will be taking players to Mexico when it launches, while Gran Turismo 7 will offer something for those interested in the racing sim genre. It’s a solid time to be a fan of racing games overall, and one can only hope that MX vs ATV Legends ends up sweetening the pot, whenever it launches.

MX vs ATV Legends is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
