The Soulslike genre has evolved a lot over the last decade, with FromSoftware’s efforts influencing the numerous games that have been released and those that will be coming in the near future. One of these titles is Thymesia, developed by indie developer Overborder Studio. Thymesia takes cues from FromSoftware’s PS4 exclusive Bloodborne when it comes to its aesthetics to gameplay. This includes the main character’s ability to wield various weapons that embody its raven-like design, taking on giant and difficult threats in a desolate world. However, players will be waiting a bit longer to wield that arsenal.

Earlier in August, the initial announcement from OverBorder Studio and Team17 said that Thymesia was going to be released later in December. It would launch just a month before the highly-anticipated and bigger Soulslike game, Elden Ring, developed by FromSoftware in collaboration with fantasy writer George R.R. Martin. While it was originally scheduled to release on PC exclusively, a delay is being made in order to accomodate for console launches.

The announcement of this delay was posted onto OverborderStudio’s Twitter account, where the developers acknowledged that some might be disappointed to hear that the game will not be released until next year. However, it did note how supportive the community has been towards Thymesia, stating that this delay is to release the game in the best state possible, making sure the developers give the game the proper amount of love and care needed.

Shortly after the announcement of the delay, the developers released a quick teaser trailer, showing off some of the boss fights and the explorable world of Thymesia. Not only did it say that Thymesia would be released later in 2022, but it announced that the game would be coming to both the Xbox Series X/S and the PS5 consoles. The delay makes sense, as the game had originally been PC exclusive up until now, which means it will need to be optimized for these new targeted launches.

There were some fans that noted how this delay could put Thymesia into direct competition to Elden Ring, with the two already getting comparisons beforehand. It doesn’t help that Elden Ring will also be released on all of the platforms that Thymesia will also be launching on, including PC. However, despite the challenging spot it is in currently, there are still some ways Thymesia stands out in comparison to other Soulslike games. Hopefully, it will still find a special place in the hearts of gamers once it releases next year.

Thymesia is set to release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2022.
