Actor Tom Holland has admitted that the press tour for Spider-Man: No Way Home left him feeling pretty guilty, reminding him of the series of lies he had to tell reporters in an attempt to keep the many spoilers for the film hidden. Most notably, spoiler alert, the rooftop scene in which all three Spider-Men meet and interact for the very first time.
However, the secret was definitely well worth the wait. Spider-Man: No Way Home has now ranked as the sixth-highest grossing movie in history - bringing in over $1 billion at the global box office. Holland confessed his feelings about lying during the No Way Home press tour while promoting the video game film Uncharted.
The actor recently appeared on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Myers to promote Uncharted. While there, he ended up revealing just how hard it was for him to lie through his teeth every day, especially to dedicated fans. It was even more difficult to hide his fellow co-stars Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s presence in the film. Holland said, “it was the most incredible experience of his career. I am a very honest person by nature, which has gotten me into trouble in the past. So on the press tour, journalists are like ‘You’re talking to Andrew’s in this movie’ and I’m all ‘No, I’m not, stop asking me that.’ Then I go home, and I can’t sleep because I feel so bad for lying all the time. I call up my mum and say, ‘I feel so guilty for all the lies.’”
The wholesome Holland has some heartfelt emotions and immense gratitude when it comes to being able to eventually share that type of cathartic and nostalgic scene with fans. He also revealed that the famous scene in Spider-Man: No Way Home in which all three men hold one another was inspired by an improvised moment that happened while on set. He stated, “I went up to Andrew and Tobey, and I basically just said, ‘Thank you for being here. Thank you for taking the time to be a part of this incredible opportunity. It means the world to me. We all embraced and we all started crying. I remember the writers sort of seeing that being like, ‘Yep, that’s how we’re going to end the film. That’s brilliant.’”
Holland, of course, couldn’t leave the interview without cracking one joke, even after gushing about his love and admiration for his co-stars. He teased that one of the three Spider-Men happened to be wearing a prosthetic butt. Although the actor promised quickly after that he was also sworn to secrecy as to who in fact wore it. Holland’s Uncharted has surpassed expectations at the box office, bringing in $226.4 million globally by the end of its second weekend.
