Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland has discussed his plans to take a break from acting following an upcoming role on a new Apple TV series. Holland has been busy doing work on big blockbuster films, but it’s clear the actor would like to take a mini break from the work load.
Many have been freaking out thinking that Holland is going to leave the role of Spider-Man due to his previous comments. While his future as Spider-Man is still uncertain, what is certain is that it will be awhile before Holland starts working on a fourth Spidey film, if he does at all.
During an interview with CinePop to promote his new video game blockbuster film Uncharted, the actor was asked how soon he would return to the Spider-Man role. “I am going back to shoot a TV show for Apple which I’m really excited about. It’s a very, very challenging role written by the amazing Akiva Goldsman, and I think the script is some of the best I’ve ever read,” Holland said. “But I can confidently say, after I finish that TV show, I will be taking a break.”
This year currently isn’t slated to have another Spider-Man movie released. The Marvel Studios slate is still being worked on, but the point is that they set the story up for Spider-Man to be absent for a good amount of time with the upcoming films. Also, because Marvel Studios uses a good amount of CGI, it can easily have Spider-Man make a very short cameo in another film without needing the actor to actually be present.
Holland appears to have a close relationship with a lot of his co-workers, so it won’t be a surprise if he does make an already-filmed appearance in any number of upcoming Marvel Studios films. Whether it’s in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film or even the Thor or Doctor Strange sequel, the possibilities are endless.
Regardless of what they decide, let’s hope that Marvel Studios makes the smart decision to keep Holland for the long run and accommodate to his needs. The actor has expressed interest in playing the character again, so fans shouldn’t be too concerned about the future of Spider-Man. Peter Parker will no doubt return to MCU, along with all the new and old characters being brought in during phase 4 of the franchise.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is currently in theaters.
