Initially, the Oscars was started in the year 1929 (Almost 93 years before) by Louis B Mayer, the head of MGM studios.

The first award was handed on May 16, 1929 at a banquet in the Blossom room of Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

The very first person to receive an Oscar award was German actor Emil Jannings for the best actor for his roles in The Last Command and The Way of All Flesh films by Jannings.

Janet Gaynor was the only female to receive an Oscar.

Bhanu Athaiya was the very first Indian to win an Oscar for designing costumes which was the 55th Academy award. And from then, there are many notable names which kept adding to the list of Oscar.

Bollywood started giving out their movies from 1957 in which Satyajit Ray has represented India for 3 times in Oscars, five of Aamir Khan’s movies, 4 as an actor and 3 as a producer were submitted for Oscar. Seven of Kamal Haasan starring movies were also given an Oscar.

India has submitted more than 50 movies which were in different languages including Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati and Assamese.
