- Tumbbad (2018)
The first Indian movie to premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, it is a mythical story in which the residents of village Tumbbad, Maharashtra defy the orders of the Goddess of prosperity which leads to a devastating curse. A family builds a shrine of a monster who shouldn’t be worshipped, Hastar, in order to receive their cursed wealth which results in catastrophic consequences. It has its roots in the Indian cultures and feature some exceptional cinematography and spine chilling scary scenes.
- 13 B (2009)
A low-budget film with a very strong script, it is a story of a family who moves to a new apartment which is on the 13th floor. Soon after, a unknown spirit uses their television set as a medium to communicate with them and also sometimes shows dangerous events of future. It is a very unique yet unmissable movie which is both horrifying and intellectually challenging.
- 1920 (2008)
A cliche bollywood movie with a deserted mansion, mysterious caretaker and a newly wed couple but one thing that sets it apart from others is, it’s too frightening. The lead character digs into the mysterious history of the mansion when his wife gets demonically possessed. It’s a mainstream horror movie which will make you hide your face in your pillow and squeeze it hard in terror.
- Horror Story (2013)
A group of youngsters meet after a long time to give farewell to one of their friend who is moving abroad and decide to spend the night at a haunted hotel. But things do not work out for them and they end up facing scary fest. No spoilers as you must try out this movie for a fantastic trembling experience which will surely make you jump off your seat in fear.
- Aamis (2019)
The movie with a strong storyline and great reviews, it made its debut at the Tribeca Film Festival with the english translation name Ravening. The movie features a content Pediatrician who meets a Ph.D student who is doing a research on Indian eating habits. The two forms a good bond but soon their trying meat together makes the female doctor to crave human meat. It has a bit grotesque storyline that will satiate even the most critical horror movies which includes violence and depraved content.
