There have always been two titans in the world of comic books: Marvel and DC. That conflict has since transferred to the big screen, and supporters on both sides of the rail are generally pleased to appreciate both films. When it comes to comic book movie action, Marvel and DC will always be the standard-bearers.
- Venom: Let There Be Carnage
The original Venom film was a throwback in certain ways. Venom was a wild ride, mostly highlighted by the ridiculous, and hilarious, bickering between the characters of Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote. While most modern comic book movies have at least a veneer of seriousness, Venom was a wild ride mostly highlighted by the ridiculous, and hilarious, bickering between the characters of Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote. We received a movie that was greater in every sense with Venom: Let There Be Carnage. There will be more symbiotes, over-the-top action, and stupid disputes. It’s possible that Venom: Let There Be Carnage is an acquired taste. For some, the absurdity of it all is a benefit, not a flaw. Even if you give this one the benefit of the doubt, the other Marvel and DC films this year were so amazing, even if this one wasn’t.
- Black Widow
The character of Black Widow wasn’t the first woman in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to have her own film, but given that she’d been around since the franchise’s inception, it was one that fans deserved to see. The fact that it occurred only after the character had died was a minor detail; after all, this is a comic book film.
Black Widow was an excellent conclusion to the character’s story, and it also introduced new characters to the MCU, one of whom we’ve already seen in a Disney+ series. We saw why we adored Scarlett Johansson in Black Widow, and we’ll miss her as Natasha Romanoff if this is her final appearance.
3.Spider-Man: No Way Home
How do we even begin to discuss Spider-Man: No Way Home at this point? The Spider-Man films have always been enormous, but No Way Home attempted something truly monumental and succeeded. By any measure, it was the most successful Spider-Man film ever. It was an Avengers-level event in its own right, but it was also a pretty terrific movie, despite the fact that the plot contained a lot of thrilling components.
Tom Holland demonstrated why he is widely regarded as the best actor to ever play both Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Spider-Man: No Way Home sent the character on an emotional journey unlike anything we’ve seen before. Many are already proclaiming it to be the best Spider-Man film ever.
- Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
From the beginning, the odds were stacked against Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The first Marvel film not to be released on Disney+ at the same time meant that fans would have to go to the theatre to see it. Fortunately, Shang-Chi was a hero worthy of the journey. There’s a reason the sequel to this one was already confirmed before 2021 concluded.
Shang-Chi boasts some of the best martial arts action sequences in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the film relies heavily on CGI and digital effects, it does it in an intelligent manner, creating words that are as aesthetically lovely as Eternals’ natural landscapes. We can’t wait to get started.
- Zack Snyder’s Justice League
The year 2021 was the year when the unthinkable happened. The Snyder Cut was finally, properly released after years of requests. While it wasn’t the theatrical release that we had all hoped for, we did get something that was undeniably Zack Snyder’s whole vision for Justice League.
Was Zack Snyder’s Justice League superior to the film adaptation? It’s difficult to disagree with this. It was more than twice as long, which provided it more breathing room and allowed it to tell a far greater story. But maybe that’s what you need to do when dealing with the Justice League.
