So you’re looking for something to watch on Netflix, but you’re in the mood for something light. Netflix’s vast catalog might be frightening, especially when you’re seeking for a good comedy in the midst of a sea of bad comedies.
Here are some of the comedy movies on Netflix are
- Bad Trip
Bad Trip is a hilariously infantile comedy that will make you laugh out loud. Eric Andre and Lil Rel Howery play a pair of friends who drive from Florida to New York in order for Andre’s character to track down the girl of his dreams. The film is a cross between Jackass and a traditional road trip comedy. Tiffany Haddish, who plays Howery’s character’s sister and is coming off a prison break, is hot on their trail. However, every scene in the movie is staged as a joke, with naïve individuals serving as the film’s background and supporting characters. It’s amusing and uncomfortable, but it also highlights how ludicrous some of the conventions in typical romcoms are, such as when Andre breaks out in song in “The Notebook.
- Always Be My Maybe
Set It Up, Netflix’s 2018 romcom, brought the romcom back in a big way, and the streaming service’s 2019 offering, Always Be My Maybe, is just as sweet and wonderful. The film portrays a pair of young best friends who have since drifted away and are pulled together once more in adulthood, despite their lives having taken quite different roads. It was co-written by and stars Randall Park and Ali Wong. With some well-paced dramatic passages, Park and Wong are explosive together, and the picture takes time to breathe.
- Lady Bird
Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig’s directorial debut, is both immensely funny and terribly impossible to resist. This is a soulful coming-of-age narrative, as Saoirse Ronan portrays Christine, a young girl who battles through her final year at a Catholic high school—struggles with guys, friendships, money, and her parents. This is a mother-daughter story at its core, and while it can be rather heartbreaking at times, it’s also quite funny. Ronan is fantastic in the Oscar-nominated main role, Beanie Feldstein is hilarious as her BFF, Timothee Chalamet is perfect in the character of the “pretentious cool man,” and Gerwig’s screenplay and direction are flawless.
- Dolemite is My Name
Performer Rudy Ray Moore develops an outrageous character named Dolemite, who becomes an underground sensation and star of a kung-fu, anti-establisment film that could make or break Moore.
- Hail Caesor!
Eddie Mannix, a fixer for Capitol Pictures in Hollywood, has to deal with a pregnant actress, gossip columnists, and a kidnapped movie star all in the same day, while also considering a lucrative job offer.
- Sorry to bother you
t’s better to go into Sorry to Bother You cold, but if you need a refresher, it follows Cassius Green (Lakeith Stanfield), a young black man who realises he’s a whiz at telemarketing when he puts on his “white voice,” but as his career grows, he begins to sacrifice his ideals. Boots Riley’s biting satire on race, capitalism, art, masculinity, and commerce is based on this core idea. It’s not a perfect film, but its ambition is clear, and it’s alternately hilarious, scathing, and absolutely insane.
- Set it up
If you’re seeking for a lovely romantic comedy but don’t want to watch anything from a decade ago for the umpteenth time, Claire Scanlon’s charming Set It Up is a must-see. The plot revolves around two harried assistants who plan to set up their bosses in order to acquire some much-needed free time away from their stressful work. Despite their plotting, they begin to fall for each other. The romcom beats are obvious from a mile away, but they’re executed so skillfully and effectively that you won’t notice. Furthermore, the film sparkles because to Deutch’s and Powell’s superb performances, which need to be recognized.
- American Ultra
Check out American Ultra if action comedies are your thing. The film, which was released in 2015, reteams Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart from Adventureland for a different kind of story. Eisenberg plays a drifting stoner who becomes the CIA’s target, which awakens something buried deep within him when he discovers he’s a sleeper agent with precision fighting skills. He and his girlfriend (Stewart) flee, and the film is a mix of action and stoner comedy.
