In Triangle Strategy, players are introduced to each of the three countries in the beginning moments of the game. While the main character Serenoa calls the kingdom of Glenbrook his home, his fiance Frederica comes from the nearby land of Aesfrost, ruled by her brother. There is a third kingdom as well, and it can get confusing with all this lore and the many characters.
The Kingdom of Glenbrook in Triangle Strategy
In this Tactics-style JRPG, players begin in the land of Glenbrook. This kingdom is ruled by House Glenbrook, which consists of Serenoa’s close friend Prince Roland Glenbrook, Roland’s father Regna Glenbrook who wears the crown, his older brother Frani Glenbrook who is heir to the throne, and his sister Cordelia Glenbrook. They rule from Whiteholm City.
There are also three high houses of Glenbrook, each dedicated to supporting the king and his family. These are:
- Serenoa’s house, House Wolffort, is lead by his father, Symon Wolffort. They are a military house and produce some of the best warriors. This is also home to the Steward of Wolffort, Benedict Pascal. House Telliore is led by Silvio Telliore. They are in charge of the entertainment and merchants’ guilds in the kingdom. House Falkes is led by Landroi Falkes. This house specializes in farming.
During the opening chapters of the game, Glenbrook falls to their neighbor Aesfrost, the home of Serenoa’s wife-to-be. She says that she was unaware of her brother’s plans to attack the kingdom, breaking the treaty that had kept peace in the lands for the last 30 years.
Grand Duchy of Aesfrost in Triangle Strategy
Aesfrost’s lands are all in the frozen north, in the most mountainous parts of the continent of Norzelia. They have mines filled with precious iron ore and the means to smelt it into useful weapons and armor, making them the most dangerous of the lands. They are also the country that pays the most dearly for salt which is controlled entirely by the Holy State of Hyzante.
- Gustadolph Aesfrost - Current ruler of this Duchy and brother to the playable character Frederica Aesfrost. Frederica Aesfrost - Serenoa’s betrothed and half-sister to Gustadolph. Erika Aesfrost - Gustadolph’s youngest sister and a dignitary representing Aesfrost in Glenbrook at the beginning of the game. Thalas Aesfrost - The youngest sibling of the family of Aesfrost and a dignitary representing Aesfrost in Glenbrook at the beginning of the game. Avlora - Aesfrost’s greatest combatant and a key player during Aesfrost’s takeover of the Kingdom of Glenbrook.
Holy State of Hyzante in Triangle Strategy
Players will also find out a lot about The Holy State of Hyzante in their 40-50 hour playthrough of Triangle Strategy. This country is ruled by seven holy men and women. Their state religion is also their ruling class, and this holy state is the sole source of salt on the continent. All of Norzelia relies on the Saintly Seven being fair with their gift of salt to the rest of the world, but they are beleaguered by prejudice against the Rosellan people. The Saintly Seven include:
- Lyla Viscraft - The Minister of Medicine. She believes that the believers of the goddess should be prioritized in all things, including the distribution of salt and healing. Sorsley Ende - The Minister of Salt Exharme Marcial - The Minister of Arms Kamsell Pharant - The Minister of Domestic Affairs Idore Delmira - The Minister of Religion
The State of Affairs in Norzelia
In the beginning of the game, during the parts that were also in Triangle Strategy’s demo that carried over to the full game, players find that there has been peace between all three countries for the last 30 years. That being said, it’s obvious that there is some discontent in spite of the peace. The people of Hyzante make it quite clear that they see those not of their religion as lesser people, and therefore not as deserving of salt as those who are “Goddess touched.” The Aesfrost House is upset that their salt cost them so much money; citizens need the salt and cannot afford the high prices that are demanded by the Hyzante.
Glenbrook is peaceful and profitable, their kingdom protected by three strong main houses. They are celebrating the coming marriage of one of House Aesfrost and their very own Lord Serenoa, who is set to take over from his father as head of house Wolffort. This sets the scene for the conflicts and the alliances that will play out during Triangle Strategy.
Triangle Strategy is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
