Fix 1: Give your apps permission
If your Windows 10 recently got updated, you might need to permit apps to use the camera. To let your device access the camera, select Start, then select Settings > Privacy > Camera. In Allow access to the camera on this device, if Camera access for this device is turned off, select Change and turn on Camera access for this device.
Fix 2: Check for an incompatible camera driver
Old cameras or webcams are not always compatible with Windows 10 or the latest drivers. Follow these steps to check if your camera is compatible:
A) Select Start, enter device manager.
B) In Device Manager, search for your camera under Cameras, Imaging devices or Sound, video, and game controllers.
C) Right-click the name of your camera, and then choose Properties.
Select the Driver tab, and then select the Driver Details button. Seek the file name that includes stream.sys. If it’s there, you will need to replace it with a newer camera or an external camera
Fix 3: Rollback the camera driver
If your camera stopped working after an update, you can follow these steps:
B) In Device Manager, right-click your camera and select Properties.
C) Select the Driver tab, select Roll Back Driver, and then choose Yes.
D) Once the rollback is complete, restart your device, and then try opening the Camera app again.
If rolling back didn’t work or isn’t available, continue to the next steps.
Fix 4: Uninstall your camera driver and scan for hardware changes
A) Select Start, enter device manager.
B) In Device Manager, right-click your camera and select Properties.
C) Select the Driver tab and choose Uninstall Device. Select the check box for Delete the driver software for this device, then click OK.
D) In Device Manager, on the Action menu, choose Scan for hardware changes.
E) Wait for it to scan and reinstall updated drivers, restart your PC, and then try opening the Camera app again.
