Now, there’s drama between Ludwig and Twitch after the platform released recaps as the year comes to a close, and it could highlight the respect that Ludwig was referring to when he switched from YouTube to Twitch. In short, he was snubbed by Twitch’s Recaps.
What Are Twitch Recaps?
In a nutshell, Twitch Recaps are summaries sent to the user, whether they’re a streamer or a viewer, about their time on the site in the last year. Streamers can see what categories they participated in the most, how many hours their viewers have watched, and how many hours they went live while viewers can see what their most-watched channels were and which emotes they used the most.
Aside from Ludwig’s involvement, there’s already a bit of frustration surrounding the Twitch Recaps. Unlike Spotify’s Wrapped where listeners can click on a button in the app and it views similar to an Instagram story, the Twitch Recap is sent via email, meaning users must have marketing emails for the site enabled. If they don’t have this feature turned on, they won’t get to see their Recap at all.
Ludwig Gets Snubbed in the Twitch Recaps
Despite becoming one of Twitch’s most prolific streamers this year with a 30-day and 7-hour streak and a record-breaking number of new subscribers for his channel, he’s also missing out on the Recap, but in a different and more disappointing way for the avid streamer.
Essentially, Ludwig doesn’t and won’t appear in any viewer’s Twitch recaps, even if he was a user’s most-watch channel that year. It’s unclear if this was an oversight on Twitch’s part or intentional. After all, Twitch leaving out so many users, including major streamers like Sykkuno, from receiving the Recap seems to be an oversight to some capacity, but many feel that this was deliberate.
According to the Super Smash Bros. commentator, he thinks Twitch was unlikely to promote someone who had moved to a different platform, which makes some sense from a business standpoint, but is still unfortunate, further supporting Ludwig’s feeling that he wasn’t appreciated by Twitch, resulting in his switch to YouTube. When Sykkuno, a Twitch streamer, explained the issue to his own audience, he said, “he probably made the right choice,” referring to Twitch’s lack of appreciation for someone who brought the platform hefty income.
Ludwig called the snub a number of things—“exiled, admonished, rocked, rolled,” and, most sadly, “erased from so many people’s years.”
An intentional snub would be on-brand for Twitch’s reputation of shady decisions with a lack of explanation. After Ninja left Twitch, the platform reportedly used his hollow channel to promote other streamers. And of course, there’s the instance of Dr Disrespect being permanently booted from Twitch without any explanation, according to the Doc, at least. Whatever the case, Ludwig’s switch to YouTube will likely lead to him feeling more appreciated.
