As a typical FromSoftware game, Elden Ring is extremely difficult thanks to many factors like dangerous enemy encounters and tough bosses. That’s why it was incredibly surprising to see Japanese streaming couple blluist take on the entirety of Elden Ring in a two player split control setup.
Blu and Grey are the bilingual couple who make up Blluist, wowing Twitch subs with their strong communication and gaming skills. Their recent streaming series of using a split control keyboard system while defeating notorious Elden Ring bosses has gone viral, with many clips and highlights showcasing the team effort required to tackle such a challenging run.
The couple had been streaming their Elden Ring “Split Control” run for a combined runtime of 26 hours, finally arriving at the demanding final boss. While some gamers have managed to tackle the Elden Beast’s final form with a dancepad controller, it still can be considered a measure of skill to tackle single-handedly. Blu and Grey’s communication skills are utilized well by each one counting down for precise attacks and synchronized player movement, balanced out with some kindly supportive comments to keep one another determined.
Blluist’s setup allows for viewers to see the control inputs on-screen, with one controlling movement with the WASD keys and other miscellaneous commands, and the other using the mouse for attacks. The live chat noted Blu’s “amazing dodges,” which can often be the difference between a successful attempt and an untimely game over in Elden Ring’s unpredictable nature. Therefore, it is understandable why the couple were loudly celebrating the killing blow to take down the fearsome foe after six hours of attempts.
Blluist have previously undertaken more split control gaming attempts with difficult games, such as Alien: Isolation and the “Gauntlet of Strength” boss battles from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Their official podcast “Stream On Streaming On” goes into detail about their streaming life and relationship, with both Blu and Grey mentioning the importance of love and open communication to be able to remain civil while undertaking such frustrating challenges.
The ability for summoned players to join Elden Ring co-op attempts can pay off when done right thanks to a combination of skill, communication, and a bit of luck. When Elden Ring’s final challenges are tackled and complete, Blluist are happily continuing their split control streams on Twitch, soon to take on their next game.
Elden Ring is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
