New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on Dec. 23, 2022) follows:

Elon Musk recently announced a new ‘View Count’ feature on Twitter. It will let users see the number of times someone has looked at their tweets or anyone else’s.

However, it’s not always necessary for people to like or accept every change or feature that’s introduced to a platform. For instance, we previously saw how the Twitter ‘Swipe up for more’ feature received backlash from several users.

Similarly, the ‘Related Tweets’ functionality also wasn’t very well-received by a section of users.

Twitter ‘View Count’ feature criticized

And now, it appears that a number of users (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) are not happy with the ‘View Count’ feature and are in turn criticizing it tremendously.

Reports suggest that some users find the feature useless and distracting. While others are even confusing the view counts with the number of replies or comments.

It is also being argued that it makes the tweet section look congested which in turn ruins the experience.

Resultantly, some are now asking the developers to remove the feature (1,2,3,4) or introduce a way to turn it off.

View Count feature not available for some

Even though several users don’t want the feature, those who want to use it are getting a ‘view counts are not available for this tweet’ error (1,2,3,4,5,6).

It seems that the stats related to view count are unavailable for others as well as your own tweets. This is quite frustrating as the existence of this feature seemingly becomes pointless.

No official word in sight

Twitter hasn’t commented on the matter where the new ‘View Count’ feature is receiving flak from users. It also hasn’t acknowledged the issue where the feature is not available altogether.

We’ll keep tabs on the latest developments and update the article as and when something noteworthy comes up.

Update 1 (Dec. 23, 2022)

05:44 pm (IST): Elon Musk recently created a poll asking users whether the Tweet impression count should stay on the left or move to the right.

This could also potentially mean that the ‘View Count’ feature might not be removed by the team.

Update 2 (Dec. 26, 2022)

12:05 pm (IST): Responding to a user’s complaint regarding the View Count feature, Elon Musk said that they’ll add a setting to turn it off.

Update 3 (Jan. 17, 2023)

05:37 pm (IST): Twitter has now moved the ‘View count’ to the right side of the tweet and some users aren’t happy with this change (1, 2, 3).
