HMD Global is expected to get extremely busy with testing and actually rolling out Android 10 updates to several devices in the coming weeks. The company has already pushed the update to the Nokia 8.1 and next in line are the Nokia 9 PureView and Nokia 7.1.

Towards the very end of Q4 2019, the Nokia 6.1, Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 7 Plus are expected to join the party and in fact, you can already grab the internal Android 10 build and install it on your Nokia 6.1, Nokia 6.1 Plus or Nokia 7.1 ahead of official rollout.

The fact that internal builds are already doing rounds suggests that active testing is ongoing. However, we don’t have the exact release date of the OS for either device.

Amidst all these, HMD hasn’t stopped pushing the latest security patches to those devices whose Android 10 updates are still a long shot away.

As of this writing, October patches have already been released for Nokia 9 PureView, 7 Plus, 7.1, 6.1 Plus and 6.1; Nokia 8 Sirocco and Nokia 2.1; as well as Nokia 3.1, 3.1 Plus, 5.1 and 5.1 Plus. However, it appears that some Nokia 6.1 Plus units haven’t seen any software update since August 2019.

Apparently, several Nokia 6.1 Plus users are no longer receiving over the air (OTA) software updates. The same units are also showing that Google Play Protect is broken. Even worse is that the Netflix app is now incompatible with the device.

For some reason, though, it appears that most of the affected units started experiencing these issues right after visiting a Nokia service center for repair services.

Evidently, it seems these units were installed with uncertified software by the technicians in the service centers while addressing the charging port issue.

On the other hand, there have also been cases of units that are experiencing these issues right out of the box, which means they come with the buggy software pre-installed.

Given that the affected Nokia 6.1 Plus units cant receive OTA updates, it means these issues cant be fixed via a software update. Apparently, the only way to fix the issue is to install an older bug-free firmware after which the issues will be addressed.

Going forward, you will be able to receive OTA updates to the latest October security patches as well as the upcoming Android 10 upgrade, just like before you took your device to the service center.
