The 2019 first-person exploration and puzzle game Outer Wilds was a surprise hit. Developed by Mobius Digital Games and published by Annapurna Interactive, Outer Wilds won multiple Game of the Year awards due to its non-linear storytelling and compelling mysteries. It seems Outer Wilds may have one big surprise left, though. In a recent Steam update, what appears to be a listing for a new Outer Wilds DLC or expansion has appeared, though no announcement has been made as of yet.

Twitter user Simon Carless first discovered the new Steam entry, which popped up in a typical Steam records update with no fanfare. The listing does have a name, at least. It’s called Echoes of the Eye. Beyond its association with Outer Wilds, however, there’s no further information from which to speculate on.

While the Steam entry for Echoes of the Eye is mysterious and there’s no information to go on beyond it, another source of interest has cropped up. Namely, the social media accounts for both Annapurna Interactive and Mobius Games. Annapurna first retweeted the story about Echoes of the Eye, along with an eye emoji. Mobius Games then retweeted Annapurna with the addition of a pair of eyes emoji.

The takeaway that Outer Wilds players can assume is that Echoes of the Eye is something to watch for. The retweets from official accounts confirm that this isn’t an accident and that a DLC does seem to be coming. As for what Echoes of the Eye really is, whether it’s a small or large DLC, players will just have to wait and find out.

Outer Wilds is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch release planned for later this year.
