Since Pokemon first exploded in popularity in the early 90s, the anime has been a mainstay for the franchise, following Pokemon Trainer Ash Ketchum, Pikachu, and their many friends as they travel throughout the latest Pokemon region. However, with Pokemon Journeys, the 23rd season of the anime, things were shaken up a bit, as Ash and his new traveling partner Goh travel to different regions in the Pokemon universe from episode to episode, instead of staying in one region like Galar.
Pokemon Journeys has already been quite ambitious, with Ash and Goh taking Lugia for a ride in just the series’ 2nd episode, also encountering Mewtwo, and even seeing the two work together to capture the destructive Legendary Eternatus. Now, it looks like new episodes of the anime will be taking Ash and Goh to Professor Oak’s Lab as they encounter more familiar faces and some of Ash’s old Pokemon.
A new teaser was released, showing highlights of what look to be some of Pokemon Journeys’ biggest episodes yet. The trailer mentions a group called “Project Mew,” and shows Ash and Goh donning Dynamax Adventures garb as they explore a tundra. The teaser also features Ash’s longtime rival Gary Oak, his former traveling partner Iris, some of his old Pokemon, and a plethora of Legendary monsters.
One episode of the anime looks to take heavy inspiration from the Dynamax Adventures feature in the Pokemon Sword and Shield Crown Tundra DLC, which released last October. Courtesy of Pokemon news and info website Serebii, a new episode will introduce new trainers Tsurugi and Asahi, who are part of the group Project Mew, which is on a search for the Legendary Pokemon of the same name. With the help of Professor Oak, Ash and Goh will join Project Mew as the group is searching for recruits. Of course, it’s hard to ignore the elephant in the room: the return of Gary Oak, who it seems will aid Ash and Goh in fighting against Moltres.
Additionally, the new teaser shows Ash reuniting with some of his older Pokemon from past journeys, such as Charizard, Bayleef, Noivern, and many more. It looks like Ash will take his Infernape out for a few battles too, as the Fire-type Pokemon can be seen taking on the Legendary Moltres. Additionally, it looks like Ash will get the chance to fight his former traveling partner Iris, who now dons her Champion garb from Pokemon Black 2 and White 2.
The new episodes are sure to be an exciting one, as Goh’s main goal is not only capture every Pokemon, but especially capture the Legendary Mew. Considering Goh has already caught himself a Suicune in the past, the prospect may not seem too farfetched.
