Iron Gate AB released popular Viking survival game Valheim in early access last year and fans continue to discover hidden details, ideal building methods, and different techniques for defeating the various bosses. The developer has confirmed an update that has added more things to the game including frost caves, controller support, and more.
The Steam page for Valheim has been altered in order to reflect changes made to the public test client with patch 0.207.15. Iron Gate AB has confirmed that the changes are being made to the public test branch of Valheim so that the team can fix any lingering bugs, stability issues, or balance things better. The update forces a fresh location generation for players that will cause minimally longer load times for the initial load, and it may move some boss locations.
Valheim players have encountered the werewolf-like Fenrings near the Mountain biome at night since the game was released, causing many deaths in the snowy region. With the addition of Frost Caves in patch 0.207.15, Valheim fans will be able to target the dangerous beasts by exploring the new type of cave which will spawn in unexplored areas of the map. Like other dungeons in Valheim, Frost Caves will provide more challenge as well as a plethora of loot, and a place to practice combat skills against mighty foes.
One of the primary reasons Valheim has been updated to support controllers is the upcoming release of the Steam Deck. Iron Gate AB has also confirmed that Valheim has been optimized for the Steam Deck with text input options in patch 0.207.15, so any players receiving the mobile PC unit will be able to play the game right away. The controller support for Valheim may also prepare the game for a future console port that has been heavily rumored but remains unconfirmed by the developers.
Single-player Valheim fans will be able to pause their game with patch 0.207.15 which will allow them to safely step away without the forest attacking their base. The Cultist, Ulv, and Bat have been brought to Valheim as new enemies while the addition of crafting materials like Fenring Claw, Fenring Hair, and Red Jute will give players more reasons to delve into the Frost Caves. Additional weapons and armor have also been created to make more use of Fenring materials and an event called “you stirred the cauldron” joined the extensive Valheim event lineup with the updated Public Test Branch.
The Valheim Public Test Branch is found in the Steam library by choosing the game client, selecting “Properties” in the right-click menu, and selecting the “Betas” option. This will prompt the player to enter a Valheim code to load the corresponding data, with patch 0.207.15’s code being “yesimadebackups.” Because Valheim continues to receive updates and is still in early access, there are several more things that may be added to the game as Iron Gate AB makes it ready for a full launch. The patch 0.207.15 number suggests that the game will be updated many more times before a 1.0 patch drops with an official release.
Valheim is available now for PC.
