Bono and the Edge, members of the famous Irish rock band U2, performed on Sunday at a subway station in the central Kyiv after being invited to Ukraine by President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to show their unity with Ukraine, impacted by the Russian invasion. The pictures and clips from their performance are being viral on social media.
U2 took to its social media account to inform the fans and followers why they were in Kyiv. They mentioned the reason that they were performing as a ‘show of solidarity’ after being invited by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. They wrote, “President @ZelenskyyUa invited us to perform in Kyiv as a show of solidarity with the Ukrainian people. And so that’s what we’ve come to do. – Bono and The Edge.” Several fans and followers on Twitter applauded them for their work.
The duo was also joined by the Ukrainian singer Taras Topolia. He crooned a different version of Stand By Me as he sang Stand By Ukraine. The band called Kyiv a ‘great city’ as they began their songs in the metro station for a small group of people. The people enjoyed and appreciated the band’s efforts for the Ukraine.
The ongoing Russia-Ukraine war has now entered day 75. Several reports of damage to civil life, infrastructure and much more are still being reported. Several actors, musicians and celebrities have stood in unity with those impacted by the war. They have sent them their prayers during this tough time. Also several musicians performed to convey unity including Ukrainian rocker, Andriy Khlyvnyuk. He inspired Pink Floyd to perform and record a new song for the first time in over 20 years. They both recorded “Hey Hey Rise Up,” sung in Ukrainian, which they said that it symbolises the nation’s resistance.
