The virtual fan convention DC FanDome will not be held this year. DC FanDome, which debuted in 2020, was a virtual convention that covered DC content such as comics, TV shows, and movies, with stars and creators holding virtual panels to discuss their various projects. The DC FanDome was also the first place where fans could see trailers for The Batman starring Robert Pattinson, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and other projects. According to Popverse, Warner Bros. Discovery has cancelled this year’s DC FanDome. ComicBook.com can also confirm the most recent DC FanDome update.
“With the return of in-person events, Warner Bros. Discovery is excited to be able to engage with our fans live at numerous comic-cons around the world and will not be scheduling DC FanDome for 2022,” the company said in a statement.
For the first time since the COVID pandemic cancelled shows around the world, Warner Bros. Discovery appears to be refocusing on in-person events like San Diego Comic-Con, C2E2, and Emerald City Comic Con, bringing in talent and attendees.
DC did not have a booth at San Diego Comic-Con, and ComicBook.com inquired as to whether the company would have a presence at New York Comic-Con in October, with the company confirming it would be present, though it did not specify whether that meant with a booth or not.
With the recent slashing of projects from Warner Bros. Discovery, there had been some speculation about DC FanDome. The Batgirl film, which was slated for HBO Max, was abruptly cancelled in order to receive a tax break, and the streamer also cancelled or removed several movies and TV shows, including the animated Aquaman: King of Atlantis and the Strange Adventures anthology.
However, there have been some encouraging announcements regarding DC content from Warner Bros. Discovery. Harley Quinn has been renewed for a fourth season on HBO Max, and Ezra Miller has taken the necessary steps to apologise for their recent actions, which have resulted in negative press for The Flash, including several arrests.
The first DC FanDome was held on August 22, 2000, with an eight-hour Livestream event that received a total of 150 million views. Warner Bros. Discovery President David Zaslav has stated that the studio prioritises DC projects and is working on a ten-year plan for the future.
