Matt Reeves, the filmmaker of The Batman, and his sixth & Idaho manufacturing company receive full support from Warner Bros. Since Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy and David Zaslav were hired by Warner Bros. Discovery chairman David Zaslav to run the movie business, he has become the first filmmaker to receive a full first look movie agreement. Reeves has also renewed his contract with the Warner Bros. TV Group and Chairman Channing Dungey, where he is also working on The Penguin, a spinoff series of The Batman, with Colin Farrell.
Reeves and Sixth & Idaho have an agreement with Netflix for a first-look film. Reeves chose Warner Bros. as his home with the multi-year first look because he spends so much time on film and television projects related to The Batman series. The goal for De Luca and Abdy is to see him grow into the kind of pillar of the industry that Todd Phillips has become.
“Making this legendary studio my house is a dream,” stated Reeves in a press release. “I’m so excited to be working with Mike, Pam, and Channing and our groups to deliver fascinating tales I’m actually enthusiastic about to the large and small display.”
Under the terms of the movie arrangement, the manufacturing divisions of the Warner Bros. Photos Group, including Warner Bros. Photos, New Line Cinema, Warner Animation Group, and DC-based Movies, may have first-look rights to Reeves’ writing, directing, and/or producing. Reeves is currently back at work on the sequel, co-writing it with Mattson Tomlin for a DC revival that received harsh criticism and raked in more than $770 million worldwide. For the follow-up, Robert Pattinson will return as the title character.
As part of the new agreement, Reeves has started looking for a senior-level executive to oversee the brand-new movie contract for sixth & Idaho. Dylan Clark, who worked with Reeves as a producing partner on the Planet of the Apes trilogy and The Batman, will return for the sequel but has his own production company. Reeves will continue to be headquartered at sixth & Idaho rather than occupying office space on the lot.
“Pam and I gratefully inherited the connection with Matt from The Batman and thru the start phases of planning The Penguin sequence for HBO Max,” De Luca informed Deadline. “We had been excited to nail down his total deal as a result of it is a cornerstone of what we need to do with the filmmakers which can be working on the studio. We need to create an environment the place all of those filmmakers can excel and do their work and stick with us as soon as they’re contained in the Warner household. The sixth & Idaho renewed their contract with Warner Bros. Tv Group as The Penguin’s filming was set to start soon, with Colin Farrell returning to play Oswald Cobblepot for HBO Max. According to Abdy, “We see it as simply important for the studio’s well-being to be a thriving environment for author/administrators, and for signature filmmakers to do a number of films with us.”
