Call of Duty: Warzone is quickly approaching its third season with the Black Ops Cold War integration. There were many theories for Season 2, some of which came true and many others which certainly did not. Though players had their gripes with Season 2, Warzone was still wildly popular with fans.

As Season 3 approaches, many fans are eager to have their voices heard. While Warzone is still very popular with fans still enjoying the content, there’s plenty that players would love to see changed to make the game even better in future seasons. It would be impossible for Raven Studios and Activision to bow to the demands of every fan, but many players are hoping for some big changes in the upcoming season (which is set to release on April 22).

10 Changes/Nerfs To The FFAR & Aug

Season 2 was easily dominated by the FFAR meta. The FFAR was in nearly every loadout, especially in higher rank lobbies, and anything less would often result in a quick death. The FFAR had faster TTK values than most SMGs and was incredibly good in both close and medium ranges. Fans are hoping to see a close-range meta with SMGs evolve in Season 3.

The Black Ops Aug was hands-down the best medium/long-range rifle. Though it didn’t have all the advantages of a sniper rifle, the Aug could effectively clean enemies up at long ranges with little to no learning curve. The weapon became a must for most load-outs and many players were displeased with its ease of use, as a player wouldn’t need to hit all the bullets in a single burst to be deadly with it.

9 A New Map

Though Verdansk will forever live in Warzone players’ hearts, most fans are ready for an entirely new map. There have been rumors about a new map for months and fans have been expecting an entirely new map with the Black Ops Cold War integration.

As it stands, the only new map that’s been made wasn’t a map at all. Instead, players got a new area in the Verdansk map with the Shipwreck. The Shipwreck–like the opened Stadium–was great for a few weeks but quickly lost its luster. Fans are definitely ready for a whole new map to explore and play around with.

8 Fixes To Dev Errors

Throughout Season 2, many players were plagued with dev errors. These errors would often shut the game down entirely and would sometimes require players to restart their systems or computers entirely. Though game development surely isn’t easy, fans are hoping that the teams at Raven Studios and Activision can find a fix soon.

Warzone has no rejoin feature like PUBG and thus players playing with squads would have no way to rejoin their buddies on the battlefield. These dev errors were widespread and caused a ton of problems for fans of the game.

7 More Transparency & Communication With Developers

Fans of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) noticed that there was oftentimes shaky communication with the developers. Patch notes would be inaccurate, many changes wouldn’t be listed at all, and developers often didn’t explain changes to the fans. This trend has unfortunately persisted with Warzone and Black Ops Cold War. Patch notes are almost always inaccurate and contain changes that didn’t actually happen while also omitting changes that seemingly happened behind the scenes.

This has been a long-standing problem for the development team and fans have had to turn to community leaders and content creators to get accurate information about the game. While it’s great that these people are around and willing to test every weapon and change, it would be a huge help to have more open communication with the developers. Fans are certainly hoping for more accurate and serious attention to future patch note releases.

6 General Improvements To Optimization & Storage

Warzone is a huge game on every platform it’s available on. The development team has made great progress in reducing file sizes and has promised to continue working on them. That said, fans who have Warzone and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War installed on PC will have over 50GB used up. The full game (Campaign, Multiplayer, & Zombies) is over 80GB on PC without Warzone installed.

While the development teams have stated that they will be working continuously to decrease file sizes, there’s no telling whether this change will aid in further optimizing the game. Many PC players struggle to run Warzone on their computers even at the lowest settings possible. Further optimizing the game is a big request of the fans as it will help the existing fanbase but also possibly draw more players into the game.

5 Removal Of Fist Gulags

In Call of Duty: Warzone players aren’t dead as soon as they die the first time. They still have a chance to get back in the game if they win a one-on-one fight in the gulag. The gulag plays much like the Gunfight mode introduced in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019). Each player spawns on opposing sides of a small map (currently a Nuke Town style map) with the same random loadout. The player that wins can spawn back into the warzone and rejoin their squads if they have them.

As it stands, the gulag rotates through cycles of different weapons. Some weeks will feature shotguns and handguns while others will feature assault rifles and SMGs. Randomly throughout these fights are fist-only gulags, with many giving players stun grenades and a throwing knife. While fun at first, these gulags quickly begin to feel cheap and drain the life out of the gulag experience. Fans hate when their game ends because they didn’t land the first punch in an engine with questionable melee mechanics.

4 Armor Plate Overhaul

Many battle royale games feature two health bars with the first being an armor bar. While armor in some games actually subtracts damage taken, the armor in Warzone can simply be thought of as a second health bar that must be shredded before the player can be downed. Armor has always acted rather strangely in Warzone and players are hoping for a total overhaul of how it works. Players have a base health of 100 and 3 plates of armor, each providing an extra 50 points of health. This totals 250 HP with full armor and health.

Every attack in Warzone does different damage and these values can change with distance to the target and the area that is hit. Thus, bullets are rarely doing exactly 50 damage. Each armor plate refills 50 points of HP, or at least they’re supposed to. Players missing 20 points out of a plate will only get 20 points from a single plate (worth 50 points) and the extra HP will not carry over to the next empty armor slot. Players have long complained about this armor system and hope to see it changed in Season 3.

3 Improved Matchmaking

It’s no secret that Call of Duty: Warzone runs with strict skill-based matchmaking. Skill-based matchmaking (SBM) has long been a divide in the community with supporters of it and others who would love to see it removed. SBM is often used to create skill brackets for players so that they always feel like they’re playing others at their own skill level. While this in itself is a noble goal, the strict SBM of Warzone can lead to some frustrating matchmaking problems.

With higher SBM, the game will prioritize a more balanced lobby over a lobby with better latency. As a result, many players are finding themselves in lobbies with terrible lag which leads to frustrating encounters and lots of lost gunfights. Lobbies with poor latency will often have players feeling like their bullets aren’t connecting with the target or that they’re getting hit behind solid cover. These problems will cause many players to quit the game. Fans are hoping for a big change to matchmaking or even more servers to open and provide better coverage.

2 Changes To Stopping Power Rounds

Every battle royale has the element of chance heavily involved in the early game gunfights. Players scramble for any ground loot they can gather and do their best to survive against the other players. Warzone adds an extra layer of randomness to the looting as players can come across different field upgrades inside loot boxes. Though many of these upgrades are good, one stands above all the others in its pure destructive power.

The Stopping Power rounds were originally intended for Multiplayer and were poorly balanced in Warzone which features an armor system. Stopping Power rounds can be loaded into any weapon that uses bullets and they can drastically lower TTK. As a result, a player hitting more accurate shots with a regular FFAR will often lose to a less skilled player using the same weapon with Stopping Power Rounds. Fans are hoping that Stopping Power Rounds either be changed or removed entirely as they can tilt gunfights ridiculously hard.

1 Changes To The “Near Dark/Rook” Roze Skin

The operators in Warzone are all effectively the same. They have different voice lines and appearances but they are supposed to be just that–cosmetic. This notion was thrown away with the release of the character called Roze and her “Near Dark/Rook” uniform. In Warzone the adage “skins mean wins” literally comes true, as players using the “Near Dark/Rook” skin are nearly impossible to see in many areas of the map.

Fans have been complaining about this skin since its introduction in Modern Warfare Season 5. The skin became the meta for high-level play and has remained so all the way into Season 3 of Black Ops Cold War. The skin gives players who played enough to unlock it a distinctly unfair advantage in many situations and many fans feel it is a prime example of a pay-to-win mechanic.
