Wedding Season, a new rom-com as well as a crime thriller combo, is premiering on Disney+ on Thursday 8 Sept.

Gavin Drea and Rosa Salazar are the leads of the show, which follows a couple who must flee following a mass murder at a wedding.

The official synopsis for Wedding Season explains that “Katie and Stefan fall for each other at a wedding – despite Katie already having a fiancé.”

“Two months later at Katie’s wedding, her new husband and his entire family are murdered. The police think Stefan did it. Stefan thinks Katie did it. And no one knows for sure what the truth is…”

It’s fun and hilarious and always highly entertaining, but it somehow manages to sustain moments of genuine drama too. The series is positioned somewhere between a rom-com and an action thriller.

Cast

Starring as Katie, one half of the main pair, is Rosa Salazar. She is perhaps most known for her performance in Alita: Battle Angel, but you may also recognize her from the Divergent films, Bird Box, and brand-new Cherry Flavour.

The second half of the main relationship, Steffan, is portrayed on screen by Gavin Drea. Although he had previously appeared in Resistance, Vikings: Valhalla and The Alienist, his role in the Cyberpunk video game series is perhaps the one for which he is most known.

Scripter and Director

Oli Lyttleton, a former film journalist, wrote and created the series. The rest of us may yet have hope, then. The BBC drama Cheaters, which featured Susan Wokoma and Callie Cooke (who, strangely, also appears in Wedding Season), is arguably what made him most famous.

George Kane and Laura Scrivano shared the directing roles and responsibilities for the show.
