Marvel’s Avengers book-ended last year with the highly anticipated and long-awaited release of Spider-Man. With a total of 10 playable superheroes now, there have also been a number of fixes and changes to Marvel’s Avengers with patches and development updates. As far as its next roadmap is concerned, however, fans have felt left in the dark.

Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix had previously stated that Marvel’s Avengers’ next roadmap would not be ready until early 2022, and hugely popular MCU cosmetics have supplanted the larger portion of Marvel’s Avengers’ content since. Fortunately, fans may be pleased to hear that the live-service title has been hard at work contemplating what path it should be taken, and the recent absence of news updates has been addressed with some changes that players can expect to see soon.

In a surprise February Development Update from Square Enix, it is shared that Marvel’s Avengers will be making considerable changes. It is stated that Marvel’s Avengers’ “core game systems must evolve with the player base” in order to improve and develop going forward, but that the developers are currently not “delivering the most fun Super Hero team experience.” Instead, Marvel’s Avengers announces that its next patch, Patch 2.3, will aim to diminish these concerns and is “currently planned to release in March 2022.”

Firstly, it is shared that Nick Fury will return alongside a “much-needed rework of the War Table and the mission-select system.” Marvel’s Avengers’ system fluidity is important for new players who may otherwise be overwhelmed by the amount of systems and menus necessary to access certain missions or progression tabs. Gear perks will also be balanced with more options to earn gear sets “through a wider set of play activities” as well.

Marvel’s Avengers admits that last patch’s Shipments have been a beneficial feature for particular cosmetic rewards, but that it has had an effect on the number of Units players need to possess. This will be rectified further as Marvel’s Avengers plans to add more Units as rewards for “a number of end-game activities.” Moreover, weekly rewards from the Omega-Level Threat and the Raid were changed so that players could earn rewards for each character, which is a change that will carry over into Mega Hives in Patch 2.3.

Besides acknowledging general bugfixes and stability issues, Marvel’s Avengers concludes its development update with an interesting note. It teases future updates “planned for new ways to fight” and “new Heroes to fight with,” so players may anticipate some substantial additions to Marvel’s Avengers included in its future roadmap.

Marvel’s Avengers is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
