Chainsaw Man is a Japanese manga series about Denji, who tries to pay back his debt by killing Devils for the Yakuza. After being betrayed by the Yakuza, his Devil dog companion Pochita sacrifices himself. This results in Denji being reborn as a Devil-Human hybrid, becoming a Chainsaw Man. That’s when the real excitement begins.
Fans know that characters of all shapes, sizes, and personalities are portrayed perfectly in the series. But the question remains: which character would each reader be based, on their zodiac sign? From heroes to villains and everything in the grey, all types of personalities are presented in the story of Chainsaw Man.
12 Aries: Reze (III. 21. - IV. 19.)
The main antagonist of the Bomb Girl arc, Reze very hard to figure out — and the most complex characters can be the most intriguing for readers. She’s undoubtedly very attractive and can use this to get what she wants.
Her true feeling toward people and situations remain unclear, making her very mysterious. On the surface, she’s kind and gentle and is not afraid to show her feelings, but she hides the most important aspects of herself below the surface and has a hard time showing those (or just isn’t willing to).
11 Taurus: Denji (IV. 20. - V. 20.)
When first encountering him, Denji can seem very childish, rude, and harsh. He’s naive and seemingly lives on the surface. He enjoys living and rarely goes beyond the surface regarding human relationships (especially romantic ones).
He’s a brilliant protagonist because he’s not perfect. He’s not the typical archetype for a hero. His motivations are simple, and he’s headstrong when it comes to what he wants. Beneath the surface of the story, Chainsaw Man is really about Denji wanting to find a place he calls home, and his desire to surround himself with people he can call his family. This is very true to the Taurus sign.
10 Gemini: (V. 21. - VI. 20.)
Gemini is known as the zodiac sign with two faces, and this character exemplifies this. He’s a Devil with an angelic appearance, and he’s able to embrace this very well in the series. He’s definitely the most fleshed-out Devil character in the manga.
He has a unique outlook on life, but is generally lazy, and can suck the energy out of everything he touches. This translates well to Gemini, as he can read and even utilize people’s energy for good or for evil, whichever he fancies at the moment.
9 Cancer: Sawatari (VI. 21. - VII. 22.)
Sawatari is an underrated character due to her mysterious and short arc. Although she generally has a calm nature, she can be easily flustered and pushed out of balance — like many Cancers. She’s a born leader, but this can be used against her.
She’s also a great negotiator and understands people very well. Though she’s an antagonist in the Katana Man arc, her motivations can be understood by readers, making her likable in most scenarios.
8 Leo: Quanxi (VII. 23. - VIII. 22.)
On the surface, Quanxi is an emotionless and incredibly cool character. She’s calm and stoic and has no shame in discussing business. But beneath it all, she’s very protective, soft, and charming, like the sign of the lion.
She’s one of the coolest characters in the manga, and when surrounded by the right people, her softer side shines through. But otherwise, she plays it calm, cool and collected. Writers did a great job fleshing out her character, making it incredibly easy to fall in love.
7 Virgo: Kobeni (VIII. 23. - IX. 22.)
Kobeni is a cowardly character. This might sound harsh when associating her with Virgo, but it makes sense when taking into consideration that she’s a great survivor. She’s emotional and freezes when confronted, but she’s also resourceful when need be.
Like Virgo, she craves no drama in her life, but after all, this is not a legitimate choice in Chainsaw Man. As she’s pulled into nightmarish situations, she grows up to the challenge, and against all odds, becomes an unlikely survivor of a series of unflattering situations. And at the end of the day, she’s not at all helpless like readers first thought.
6 Libra: Kishibe (IX. 23. - X. 22.)
Kishibe is first portrayed as a stoic character. He later proves everyone wrong and reveals himself as a highly emotional and sentimental person. He doesn’t see things black and white and always tries to make the most intelligent decisions, weighing the pros and cons — just like Libras, who value balance and take everything into consideration.
Kishibe is a very intriguing and well-written anti-hero and mentor. He’s an amazing leader and the most important force for good in the series. But even after all this time, he remains mysterious, leaving the reader wanting more.
5 Scorpio: Himeno (X. 23. - XI. 21.)
Himeno is one of the most compelling characters in the manga. She’s a mature and capable leader, prioritizing the wellbeing of her fellow Devil Hunters. In this sense, she doesn’t tolerate any sort of behavior that might put this in jeopardy. Like a Scorpio, she’s strong and serious.
On the surface, she’s very efficient and blunt and is capable of staying calm and collected in the most stressful situations. She’s also incredibly pessimistic and rational. But underneath it all, she’s very caring and empathetic. She has shown to be very patient and tolerant to those who are suffering.
4 Sagittarius: Aki (XI. 22. - XII. 21.)
Aki almost always seems to be serious and reserved. Especially when he’s with his fellow Devil Hunters, he acts very mature and dependable, making him the counter for Denji. But like a Sagittarius, he can get very carried away by his more emotional side.
When he’s left alone, or when he becomes emotional, he’s very soft, gets attached easily, and can’t handle seeing anyone get hurt. At his core, he’s very motivated and ambitious, which can cause him to be short-sighted. His self-sacrificial behavior can get him into bad situations, but when he’s in control of his emotions, this side of him helps him become a better person.
3 Capricorn: Power (XII. 22. - I. 19.)
Most of the time, Power is portrayed as a self-centered person. She tends to fight if she has a chance of victory and prize, but as soon as she has nothing to gain, she doesn’t even join the fight. But even so, it’s impossible not to love her.
She has an amazing personality and, like all Capricorns, is fiercely loyal to those she loves. Her character development is massive, and it’s a joy witnessing it. She’s undoubtedly the favorite character of most Chainsaw Man fans.
2 Aquarius: Makima (I. 20. - II. 18.)
Known as the best villain in the manga, Makima is first presented as a force for good, the leader of the Public Safety Devil Hunters. As the story unfolds, she shows her true powers and becomes the main antagonist. She’s a master manipulator, but still, her seemingly noble motivations make her somewhat likable.
Just like most Aquarians, she’s mysterious and her true motivations are unclear, but she seems to be guided by a noble cause. She never does anything without thinking it through, she’s very intelligent, and reads people like books (which she ultimately uses to play them like a fiddle).
1 Pisces: Aldo (II. 19. - III. 20.)
Aldo has a short arc, making him an underrated character in the series. He’s wracked with guilt for the past and tormented by the pressure he receives from his brothers, which eventually leads to his dark ending.
Much like Pisces, he’s empathetic and can be insecure. He’s one of the most emotional characters in the series, but that also means he’s emotionally mature, even in the worst circumstances. Sadly, being surrounded by the wrong people can result in the potentials of his maturity being unfulfilled.
Chainsaw Man Vol. 6 was released on August 3rd, 2021.
